2012 Colorado Hospitality Scholarship Programs
Application Deadline is April 27, 2012! 

We are pleased to announce that the Colorado Hospitality Scholarship Committee is currently accepting applications for our scholarship programs to be used during the 2012-2013 academic year.
Three (3) of the state’s industry associations have come together this year to offer approximately twenty-six thousand ($26K) combined in scholarships to help support undergraduate students pursuing degrees in the hospitality and tourism industry at accredited, four-year (4) universities and colleges.  

Hospitality Scholarships Available:

  • Karl Mehlmann Scholarship = Funded through the American Hotel & Lodging Education Foundation (AH&LEF) and administered through the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA) which is a non-profit 501C6 organization that has served as the legislative voice of the industry for over 73 years and has more than 540 members representing more than 40,000 guestrooms throughout the state of Colorado.

    Background information:This scholarship is named after Karl W. Mehlmann who served as an outstanding leader in the Colorado hospitality industry for over 40 years and was an active figure in furthering education within the lodging industry. Students must be attending an AH&LEF affiliated school.
        Scholarship funding available for distribution this year: $5,500
  • MDHA Scholarship = Administered through the Metropolitan Denver Hotel Association (MDHA) which is an organization that was formed over 60 years ago to address issues that pertained specifically to metro Denver area hotels and includes; legislative issues, the Denver convention center, tax issues, transportation issues, and new developments in the metro area.
        Background information: This scholarship program was created by the association to help benefit students attending a Denver metro area
        college or university.
        Scholarship funding available for distribution this year: $20,000
  • HHRA Scholarship = Administered through the Hospitality Human Resource Association (HHRA) which is a professional organization designed to meet the needs of hospitality industry Human Resources Professionals. Organized in 1977, the mission of the association is to provide quality education and learning experiences, promote the sharing of ideas and concepts that affect our profession, further enhance sound Human Resource management practices within our industry, and create a functioning network for its members.

    Background information: The Denver Chapter of HHRA has formulated this new scholarship program that is designed to help support the
    needs of students attending a Denver 
    metro area college or university.
        Scholarship funding available for distribution this year: $1,000
Those who are interested in applying will need to adhere to each of the scholarships’ qualifications and guidelines.
Standard application requirements are as follows: (you will only need to submit ONE of each of these items TOTAL)
1.)    Completed application (may be typed or handwritten)
2.)    Copy of school transcript
3.)    Application signed by the School Director/Dean/Chair
4.)    Brief Autobiography (typed)
5.)    Resume (typed)
6.)    Essay (typed)
7.)    Recommendation Letter from the College or University (typed and on letterhead)
