White River National Forest

rom cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to hunting and fishing.

San Isabel National Forest, Pueblo
One of twelve national forests in Colorado, this one-million-acre forest offers snow-capped peaks and crystal
mountain lakes.

Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Mosca
Offers North America's largest sand dunes.

Dinosaur National Monument, Dinosaur
Located in a region of spectacular canyons and mountains, this site has produced a large number of
complete dinosaur skeletons since 1909.

Gunnison National Forest, Gunnison
National preserve that encompasses part of Colorado's central mountains, around the towns of Gunnison and
Crested Butte.

Hovenweep National Monument, Cortez
Located in Utah but near Cortez, this site has six ruins all built around 1200 AD.

Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs
A park at the base of Pikes Peak, the Garden of the Gods has a visitors
center and a very popular trading
post.

Mueller State Park

Ridgway State Park, Ridgway

and fishing.

Local Parks

City Park, Denver
The most popular park in the city, this 320-acre sanctuary offers recreation opportunities galore and houses
the Denver Zoo, the Colorado Museum of Natural History and an IMAX Theatre.

Yampa River Botanic Park, Steamboat Springs
A botanical area, free to the public, where visitors can learn about local wildflowers and fauna.

Chautauqua Park, Boulder
This beautiful park hosts cultural events and is the starting point for many hiking trails.

The Ouray Ice Park, Ouray

Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver
Spanning more than 23 acres, this urban garden features more than 15,000 species from around the world.

Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Vail
This beautiful alpine botanical garden, located at the foot of Vail Mountain, is open to the public.

Ute Mountain Tribal Park, Towaoc
The cliff dwellings at the Ute Mt. Tribal Park are a true find. See Ute wall paintings and petroglyphs as they
were, and take your time: this secluded site gets far less visitors than Mesa Verde.
